The High Is Now, But It Won’t Last Forever
Right now you’re relevant. People are watching you. They’re liking your posts, reposting your highlights, and dropping flame emojis in your comments and it feels…amazing. You hit refresh and all that dopamine hits. But the truth is, likes are temporary, only lasting as long as you’re relevance to the game. Eventually, they drop off.
At some point, the same people hyping you up today are going to move on to the next big shiny thing and begin circling new prey. And when that happens, it’s just you…standing there with no crowd, no noise, no notifications buzzing on your phone…and no dopamine. Can you handle that?
Think about five years from now. How about ten years. Forget social media for a second. Forget how many followers you’ve built. Where are you living? What are you building? What’s actually yours when the the jersey gets taken away?
You’ve got this window right now where people know your name. Leverage it! Don’t fucking waste it on shallow validation that disappears when you stop playing. What are you doing for the future?
It’s hard convincing an athlete that this game is NOT forever. You grind, travel and think this is always going to be your life. But you’re one injury or one bad month away. One team deciding you’re too old, too slow, or too expensive.
And then what? No one cares about how many followers you had in 2025 when you’re sitting in 2030 trying to figure out how to pay bills or what the fuck you want to do with your life.
Relevance isn’t yours…it’s borrowed. And unfortunately your body will break down.
So the real question is, what are you building now that will hold you up later? Because if your entire identity is tied to likes, contracts, and applause…the silence later will destroy you.
You’ve got an audience now. Use it to start something that lasts. Build connections that aren’t surface-level. Learn skills that have nothing to do with your sport. Stack money smart, not just quick.
Every day you scroll your own highlights is a day you could’ve been building a highlight reel for your future.
So I’ll ask you again:
Where do you want to be in five years? Ten years?
Not just as a player, but as a person. As a professional. As someone who doesn’t need likes to feel relevant. Because one day it’s just you. Can you handle that? Or are you going to be the one still chasing clout when the lights are off and no one’s watching?
You’re relevant now. Don’t waste it. Build the later. Trust me…
